A rare pair of Derby Porcelain seated Pug Dogs c.1765. Modelled seated on a rectangular base, its tan fur naturalistically painted with fine detail picked out in light brown enamel, its puce collar with bells and secured with a rosette. Patch marks to the base of each Pug Dog.

The ears of pugs were always cropped until 1800. Pugs were first imported from China in the 16th century and were a status symbol in the 18th and early 19th century.

Condition: Tiny chips to the dogs ears. Each with one bell lacking around the collar. No restoration. Some firing cracks to the base as shown.
