A very rare Copeland and Garrett porcelain vinaigrette, c1833-1847. The body of the vinaigrette is finely painted to one side with a gilt scroll panel, containing a girl in a moonlit vignette with flowing robes, reclining against a classical sculpture, with a mandolin at her side. The reverse with a similar gilt scroll panel, painted with a seascape of figures being rescued from a shipwreck in a stormy sea. All accentuated by a turquoise ground, beneath a gilt net motif. The bottle mounted with a hinged silver gilt cover, chased with a continuous band of acanthus leaf decoration, beneath a wreath of patriotic flowers, including roses, shamrocks, and thistle. Very rare printed mark in gold, now only faintly visible in certain light which reads ‘Copeland And Garrett, Stoke On Trent & London. Impressed mark Copeland & Garrett as well.

Condition: Some wear to the gilt in places as shown. Small scratch to the silver gilt on the lid.
