Dimensions:
A Caneware Tear Shaped Custard Cup c.1790 - 1800. With a basket weave decoration. To create this, the potter would have started with a thin slab of damp yellow ware clay and used a roller to impress the basket weave decoration into the clay. This would have then been pressed onto the base, the seam where the ends were joined would have been decorated and the custard cup dried before firing. The inside of the custard was glazed in firing with the outside left unglazed. Custard Cups such as these were made by Wedgwood, Turner and Spode. This example is unmarked.
Condition: No damage. Some areas of staining.
