A rare Derby Porcelain Teapot Stand 1785 - 1790. Decorated with an exquisite hand painted colourful Neoclassical pattern with floral garlands suspended from arrow heads and quivers below a “Smith’s blue” band with repeating gilt leaf garland.
The vibrant blue colour on this piece is attributed to a craftsman named Smith, who is credited with introducing it to the Derby factory. Some sources suggest the discovery of this bright, on-glaze blue was by Constantine Smith, a china painter and gilder at the Nottingham Road factory. Pieces featuring Smith's blue date back to the late 18th century, around the period of Chelsea-Derby (c. 1775) and early Derby (c. 1782-1800).
Factory mark to reverse very worn.
Condition: Good with no damage just surface wear to the gilding.
