A very fine Barr, Flight & Barr Worcester Porcelain Bowl c.1805. Finely decorated in the manner of Samuel Smith, with a rectangular panel depicting a man riding a horse with his dog walking alongside him in a landscape setting including cliffs and a church. Pink salmon ground, richly gilded with neoclassical scrolls and vermicelli. Marked in script to the base "Barr Flight & Barr Worcester, Flight & Barr Coventry Street London, Manufacturers to their Majesties & Prince of Wales And Royal Family''

For a discussion of the attribution of this distinctive style of landscape painting see Charles Dawson, Worcester Flight & Barr Porcelain (2023), pp.211-3. A beaker in the Museum of Royal Worcester with provenance from the family of Samuel Smith, painted by the same hand and signed 'S Smith J fecit 1806', is illustrated on p.212, fig.18.3.

The combination of this attractive salmon and gold ground and topographical painting appears to have been a popular one, favoured by Samuel Smith.

Condition: Excellent with  just a very small amount of wear to the gilding
