A superb and rare Flight, Barr and Barr Worcester porcelain cabinet cup and stand, c.1815. With twin gilded handles, broad everted rim and a band of white applied pearls below the rim. The front of the cup is finely painted with a scene of ‘The Mother’s Hope’ perhaps by Thomas Baxter, after an original engraving by Adam Buck (1759-1833). The sides and reverse are decorated with a delicate gilt seaweed pattern. The same gilt pattern and band of pearls also appears on the stand.

Printed mark to the base of the stand referring to the Coventry Street address.

It is interesting to note that this shape of cabinet cup was particularly favoured by Thomas Baxter and he also painted this subject on a Chamberlain Worcester spill vase illustrated by Geoffrey Godden in his book on Chamberlain Worcester.

Condition: The cabinet cup is in excellent condition with very minor gilt wear of the right handle, otherwise fine. Old repair of one of the ‘pearls’ in the well of the saucer.

Height of cup: 7.5 cm

Diameter of cup: 7.5m

Diameter of saucer: 14cm
