A rare Spode Porcelain Chocolate Cup, Cover & Stand c.1810. Magnificently decorated, with a complex pattern of simulated marble as to the lower section of the piece; gilt bands, within which are continuous scrolled devices and pink arcades. Two medallions, within which are floral sprigs. Similar decoration to the inner rim. Pattern 1194 is known as Spode's 'Gold Lustre'. 'Gold Lustre' was developed by John Hancock c.1807.  He had also introduced Platinum Lustre around 1805. It was discovered that a very thin smear of gold (of varying tones) on a white porcelain body when fired produced pink & purple mottled lustre.

Pattern number painted to the base.

Condition: Crack to the well of the saucer and also to the chocolate cup and both handles. The lid is all ok. Excellent display or study piece in this very rare pattern
